    Working Together

My own personal experiences have shaped the way I approach counselling with others.  My approach to counselling is client-centered and I work collaboratively with my clients to determine the approach to therapy that will work best for them. I create a strong and positive working alliance as I help people make positive changes and resolve their issues.

My practice is influenced from a strength based, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), solution focused and narrative therapy. What does all this means? See below!

Witnessing my clients gain new perspectives and then start making more aligned choices from an empowered space is the most rewarding part of my work.

When you start being a positive influence in your own life, that is the birthplace of transformation.

My intentions, as a counsellor working with you…

Flourish Counselling in Port Moody Logo

Exploring intentions is a part of my practice that I incorporate with clients through our work together. Therefore, I want to share my intentions as a counsellor with others, and this is reflective in my logo.

The spiritual meaning of the waning crescent moon phase is new opportunities and optimism. We see a change in the moon as it moves away from the sun which represents an opportunity for us to shift and change within our own lives. I believe that change is always possible, even when the outside refuses to change.

The coloured dots represent the feeling I want people to experience through counselling. This is based on the colour feeling wheel. I want people to feel:

Inspired, InsightfulBelonging, Confident, Courageous, Strength, Discovery, Balance, Growth, Safety.

To complete the logo, and my intentions, the moon has a little twist! The moon is included as a ‘thought bubble’ as there are many thoughts that arise through counselling and my intention is to explore those and empower people through discovery and align those values with the life my clients want to live.

“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”

~ Brené Brown

What Influences My Practice?

  • Trauma Informed Approach

Understanding the impact of trauma on each individual person and how that affects them physically, mentally and emotionally. Incorporates empowerment, safety, trust and skill building.

  • EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

  • Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy

Bringing the Body into Practice, Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy 2 Year Training - In process (2023 - 2025)

  • Client Centered & Collaborative

Each person is unique and I work collaboratively with my clients to determine the approach to therapy that will work best for them.

  • Strength Based

People are a lot more resilient and resourceful than they realize. I look to explore what is already within a person and highlighting and build on those strengths.

  • Mindfulness

Involves the process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which one can develop through the practice of meditation but also through other training.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies.

  • Solution Focused Therapy

This involves a goal-directed collaborative approach to change. Some clients may not want to focus on past events and SFT is a means to focus on current and future goals.

  • Narrative Therapy

This psychotherapy helps clients identify their values and the skills connected with those values. Understanding these values help clients confront current and future struggles.
